What is Transpersonal Psychology?
The word transpersonal means across, beyond, or through the personal, or the self.
All of us have a personal identity, and all of us are connected to people, places, and forces beyond ourselves, such as our ancestors, the natural world, plants, and animals. We can leverage these connections for a greater depth of healing & transformation, both for ourselves, others, and the world around us.
Transpersonal healing is a way of working that includes more than our stories, our personalities, and our personal histories. Transpersonal healing can include intergenerational, ancestral, or societal patterns.
It can include a connection to the divine or spirituality, and a sense of energy and inspiration whose source is not the encapsulated ego that most of us usually operate from. Including more than the personal in our healing journeys can open many doors and possibilities. It can allow us to feel deeply resourced and in touch with a continuity and interdependence beyond what we can immediately see, feel, or remember.
Cultures all over the world use trance states to mediate between the seen and unseen realms: autohypnotic states are invoked through means of drumming, dancing, plant medicine, meditation, visualization, chanting, etc.
We use some of these transpersonal practices and technologies in our work together. We honor and respect the lineages that these practices come from, which are often rooted in indigenous practices.
The values of reciprocity, respect, inclusivity, and cultural care are extremely important to us. Learn more about how we hold these values here: Inclusivity and Respect Statement.
What is Transpersonal Counseling?
Transpersonal counseling is a holistic approach to therapy that goes beyond addressing the psychological aspects of an individual, incorporating spiritual, emotional, and physical dimensions of healing. Rooted in the belief that personal growth and healing are deeply interconnected with a sense of meaning and purpose, transpersonal counseling seeks to help you explore the deeper aspects of your existence. It integrates traditional therapeutic practices with spiritual principles, encouraging clients to connect with something greater than themselves—whether that is through their own spirituality, a sense of interconnectedness with others, or a broader understanding of life’s meaning.
In transpersonal counseling, you are encouraged to explore not only your psychological challenges but also your experiences of higher consciousness, personal transformation, and the search for deeper truths. This can involve techniques like mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery, breathwork, and sometimes even dream work, all of which help you tap into your inner wisdom and access states of awareness that support healing. It offers an opportunity to confront existential questions—such as identity, purpose, and connection—and work through life’s challenges with a greater understanding of your place in the world.
The benefits of transpersonal counseling extend beyond symptom relief to fostering personal growth and spiritual awakening. You may find that this form of therapy helps you access greater self-awareness, inner peace, and a stronger sense of purpose. It’s especially helpful for those seeking more than traditional therapy can offer, providing a space where you can explore spiritual crises, peak experiences, and personal transformation. By integrating mind, body, and spirit, transpersonal counseling supports you in navigating life’s challenges with a more expansive, soulful perspective.

Ongoing Healing
We integrate transpersonal practices into our body-based counseling. We find that these modalities work wonderfully together: through going deeply into the body and our personal history, we can more easily access that which is beyond our individual identity.
Plant
Apprenticeship
Plant Spirit Apprenticeships are a guided process in which you develop an intimate relationship with a plant, such as lavender or rose. By devoting a few minutes a day for a set period of time, this relationship can deepen and heal many aspects of your life.
Distance Healing
In a Distance Healing session, you hold an intention or question for your deeper knowing. Then you relax, while the practitioner seeks guidance and healing on your behalf.

TESTIMONIALS
I had little, by way of expectation, coming into my first session, other than I knew Emma was kind and easy to talk to. I had not participated in a session like this before. I thought to myself, without substances that you might find being ingested in other shamanic healing rituals, what kind of visualization can one have in the middle of a discourse between two people who are coming in from their busy day for a quick therapeutic session?
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the power of the method and technique Emma employed. The visualizations were not only shockingly vivid but were immediately accessible, whereas I could not say the same for a three-day ayahuasca ceremony I once attended. In the case of the latter, I was unable to process the experience until much later. The session with Emma was more immediate in both power and meaning. Undoubtedly this was due to the lack of intoxication.
The short session cut deep into my psyche, pulling up traumatic feelings I have been holding onto for a very long time. Notwithstanding the intense emotions the session brought up, I was ready to return to my day the moment the session was over, which includes dealing with coworkers and such.
Indeed, I felt empowered and refreshed. I think this might have something to do with the ‘power animals’ that came to play during that session and the overall method that Emma employed. My hope is that Emma will continue this work and bring healing to many, for she is a wonderful guide.
